The launch of the unconventional range comes following MuscleFood’s success selling wonky fruit, vegetables and misshapen steaks
Meat eaters could be able to save some money on their weekly food shop, following the launch of the UK’s first ‘wonky chicken breasts’.
Introduced by online healthy food retailer, MuscleFood, the misshapen range includes all the cuts of chicken that aren’t quite the right shape to make it onto supermarket shelves.
The wonky chicken portions range in size from 100g to mighty 350g cuts, and cost as little as £3 per kg – almost half the price of supermarket equivalents.
The chicken can also be bought in 2.5kg packs for £7.50 each.
Despite being slightly different in shape and size to conventional chicken breasts, they contain no added salt or water, and are 100 per cent fresh.
And for anyone keeping track of their daily food intake, 100g contains just 97 calories, with a fat content of 0.4g and 22g of protein.
Combating food waste
The launch of the unconventional range comes following MuscleFood’s success selling wonky fruit, vegetables and misshapen steaks, and is part of their efforts to help combat food waste.
As supermarkets require chicken breasts to meet a specific size and shape to be sold in store, countless portions of meat are often disregarded and processed into unhealthy alternatives, such as chicken burgers and nuggets.
Darren Beale, founder of MuscleFood.com, said, “Once it’s been chopped or sliced and added into a delicious curry or stir fry, it doesn’t really matter what shape the chicken breast was to start with – so why do so many cuts get overlooked by the big supermarkets?
“We hate seeing good food go to waste, especially something as healthy and versatile as chicken.
“These 2.5 kilo packs are delivered fresh straight to your door, so you’ll be saving the pennies and your precious time in the long run.”
