It was a relatively quiet week for St. Helens Sutton A.C. as the seasons change from cross country and indoors to the highlight of the athletic season the outdoor track in a couple weeks’ time. But that didn’t stop several Sutton athletes from putting down some quick times.
Friday night saw the 6-weekly return of the Power of 5k up in Lancaster and Jade Smith headed there to ensure she made it 6 for 6 in breaking her 5km PB at the race. And Smith definitely didn’t disappoint, knocking an impressive 34 seconds off her previous PB with a time of 19:04, Smith said after “I’m actually quite frustrated with that run, as I feel I have a lot left in me and to miss breaking 19 by such a small margin, urgh”. Also racing at Lancaster was Matt Crehan who opened up his 5k season with a win and a comfortable clocking of 15:06.
Sunday saw Janet Holmes once again take to the Lake District for the challenge of the Coniston 14. Results weren’t available at the time of writing, but Holmes’ Strava shows she recorded a fantastic time of 2hours and 35minutes.
Also, earlier in the week it was announced that St. Helens Sutton youngsters, Ryan Beckett, Racheal Cahill, Amelie Waine, Joel Sumner, Olivia Byrom and Elizabeth Greenall have all been selected to represent Merseyside in the Regional Sportshall Final.
