Grieving families in St Helens Borough can now benefit from a new and improved affordable funeral service thanks to a partnership between St Helens Council and several trusted funeral directors.
St Helens Council’s Partnership Funeral Service is now provided by six well-established and reputable funeral directors with Bate & Holland, F W Marsh, J S Hedges, and Walker’s funeral services joining Co-op Funeralcare and Houghtons Funeral Service, giving residents greater choice.
The partnership provides affordable cremations at St Helens Crematorium or burials at St Helens or Newton-le-Willows cemeteries, with prices between £1,736 and £2,484 depending on the director. The service is available to all St Helens residents and doesn’t relate to income.
The improved service saw its official launch this week at Eccleston Library, with members of the council’s Bereavement Service and funeral partners on hand to answer questions and give advice.
Following a recent review, the Partnership Funeral Service now requires members to hold professional funeral trade membership of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), the Society of Allied and Independent Funerals (SAIF) or equivalent, giving residents peace of mind that they and their loved ones will be treated with professionalism, sensitivity, dignity and respect.
Councillor Lynn Clarke, Cabinet Member for Environment Services, said: “It’s great to see so many well respected funeral directors supporting the Partnership Funeral Service and giving residents of the borough, regardless of their financial situation, the funeral they deserve.
“We have produced a helpful leaflet that can be picked up from both cemeteries, most public buildings, the Crematorium office, funeral partners’ premises and online to help people make arrangements in difficult times. I’m confident we’ll continue to go from strength to strength and we will see more and more people seeing the benefits of the service.”
