St Helens College is celebrating the fantastic achievements of its A Level Academy and BTEC students today.
As students collected their results this morning, anxious anticipation turned into smiles and celebrations after discovering they had secured places at some of the best universities across the UK, including University of Chester, University of Kent, Edge Hill University, Falmouth University and Russell Group university, University of Sheffield.
Monica Box, Principal, says, “We are extremely proud of our students and value the opportunity to celebrate with them today along with their friends and family. Our students have progressed through a transformational journey both personally and academically, all culminating in their well-deserved achievements today and we wish them the very best for their exciting futures.”
Aspiring UN Delegate and one of our top performers, Bethany, is celebrating her incredible success today after achieving A*, A, B in Sociology, Politics, and Religious Studies.
Bethany is progressing to the University of Sheffield to read Politics and International Relations. She says, “I was so shocked to do so well – I really wasn’t expecting the grades I have achieved. The key to my success was choosing the subjects that I was interested in but also having my chosen career in politics at the forefront of my mind.”
She adds, “Studying at St Helens College’s A Level Academy was the best decision I have ever made. It’s where I discovered my true passion for politics.”
Local St Helens student, Andy is “completely shocked” after discovering that he has landed a place at Edge Hill University to read History with Politics. He says, “I wouldn’t have made it through my studies without my tutors. They have been amazing and really took the time to support me with extra revision sessions. I can’t wait to start university in September!”
This set of results comes in addition to many students achieving triple Distinction star grades (D*D*D*) in their vocational courses and securing their places at first choice universities. D*D*D* amount to the same UCAS tariff points as those achieving A* grades at A level.
Aspiring Tourism Manager, Sophie, achieved D*D*D* on her level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism and says, “I’ve had some amazing experiences on my course, such as working alongside the Eurocamp team in Holland as a holiday rep and globe-trotting our way to Iceland to explore their bustling tourism industry. I am looking forward to studying International Tourism Management at Northampton University!”
Stuart dreams of becoming a Wildlife Conservationist now that he has completed his level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management. He says, “This course is fantastic for animal enthusiasts like me! From trips to Chester Zoo to study ethograms to visiting Knowsley Safari and Merseyside Dogs Home to study animal behaviour, I have had some of the most amazing experiences. Now that I have achieved D*D*D*, I am looking forward to studying Wildlife Conservation at the University of Kent.”
As recognised by the Department for Education as the best in Merseyside for our 16-18-year-old students’ positive progression into employment, on to university or on to further training, St Helens College’s vocational courses allow students to study one subject, full time, enabling them to specialise in their chosen career. They provide a strong pathway to university, an apprenticeship and also employment.
