Coogan Back With A Bang at Birchwood

At the Birchwood 10K, there was an emotional return from injury for the ever-popular Amanda Coogan. After suffering a broken ankle earlier in the year, it has been a frustrating summer of recovery and attempting to regain fitness. The months of patient recuperation came to an end as Coogan delighted her team mates crossing the line in 1:02 with her good friend Jo Keogh alongside her every step of the way.

There was success for club legend Brian Middleton. Showing a clean pair of heels to athletes many years his junior, Middleton was first Strider home and claimed the victory in the V65 category in 43:18. Graham Jones and Danny Fegan were next to finish crossing the line together in an excellent 45:05. There were further impressive performances from Bill Bradley (50:46) and Mark Filingham (52:54). Ian Spencer also performed well, completing the course in 1:09. Sarah Charlton took the honour of first female Strider home with a fast finishing 56:51.

The incomparable Collette Flaherty once again showed her almost superhuman levels of endurance as she took on The Dales Way Challenge. Starting on the banks of Lake Windermere, Flaherty covered the 82 miles across the Yorkshire Dales to finish in Ilkley in 28 hours. As ever, the epic distance was only part of the challenge. Flaherty was faced with torrential overnight rain, boggy fields and the occasional pugnacious alpaca en-route. The Striders Ultra Hero continues to confound her clubmates with her Herculean efforts.

In Blackpool, the Run The Lights 10k race saw Jo Herriot light up the streets with a fantastic PB of 56:37. Further along the Fylde coast, Eric Ranson took part in the Fleetwood Marathon. The ever consistent Ranson was disappointed in his performance but it is only a matter of time before he is back to his dependable best.
