‘Ultra’ Speedy Striders

Latest news from local running club St Helens Striders

After last week’s excitement and endurance of the London Marathon, their track team competed closer to home at the Mid Cheshire Spring 5K. This course is renowned for providing the opportunity to obtain PB’s, and Friday night was no exception with all of the ‘Speedy Striders’ coming away with either SB or PB!

Peter Fairclough came in 1st male for St Helens Striders in 17.36 followed close on his heels by Mark Riley in 18.36. Rachael Fairclough came in 29th female overall in a time of 18.59, with Kelly Hamilton obtaining a PB of 19.05. Kylie Maguire and Mark Hamilton also obtained PB’s on this lightening quick course in the heart of Cheshire countryside.

Further afield, Alan Hutchinson took part in the Highland Fling Ultra Marathon, 53 gruelling miles through Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. The route follows the West Highland Way, Scotland’s oldest official long distance footpath. During the run, Alan climbed a total of 2300m and descended 2100m, finishing in 12 hours 4 minutes, an amazing feat.

Adrian Bullock flew solo at Tamar Trotters, Saltash Half Marathon, taking in the wet and windy views of the Tamar Estuary, coming in 34th place overall in a respectable time of 1 hour 43 mins.
