A follow up session to men’s health and wellbeing awareness event, Saints Night In, took place last week which gave over 40 attendees the opportunity to get a health check and stadium tour.
The event, held as part of Mental Health Awareness Week at the Totally Wicked Stadium on 10 May, saw past players Peter Harvey and Eric Chisnall show footage of some of their memorable games and take part in a Q&A session.
A stadium tour also took place, where attendees could find out all about Saints Rugby League Club and get a behind the scenes look of the club.
Health Trainers from St Helens Council’s Healthy Living Team were on hand to provide health checks which included measurements such as blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, cholesterol and a diabetes test. Advice was then given based on results.
Meanwhile, Mindsmatter offered assessments to help people reduce stress and anxiety and improve their wellbeing.
A number of other services were also present in a marketplace, including St Helens Council’s Home Improvement Agency, Mersey Forest, St Helens Sports Development, Creative Alternatives, Adult and Community Learning, CGL St Helens Integrated Recovery Service, Smokefree St Helens, Ways to Work and the NHS St Helens CCG.
The services offered information and advice on what support they can offer to people, including; how to keep warm and well during the winter months, home improvements to help keep people independent, using green spaces and physical activity to boost wellbeing, creative and learning workshops, drug and alcohol support, help to quit smoking, help to get into employment, weight management and having a say on local health services.
If you would like to find out more about the support on offer from any of the services involved, or would like to book a free health check, contact the Healthy Living Team on 0300 300 0103 or email hit@sthelens.gov.uk
