A £340m-turnover global food supplier whose HQ is in Haydock has been snapped up by a Thai conglomerate.
Westbridge Food Group Ltd (WFGL) was founded in 1998 and specialises in the sale of meat and ready-made products to customers across the world, including KFC.
It has been acquired by CPF Investment, a wholly owned subsidiary of Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company. The deal comprises a share purchase agreement worth approximately £60m.
Adirek Sripratak, chairman of CPF, said the investment in WFGL will allow the company to expand its distribution network in the UK and EU.
WFGL also has more than 100 subsidiaries which have import quota for chicken products to the EU.
WFGL is headquartered in Malvern and has bases in Haydock, Bangkok and Qingdao.
Accounts filed for the year to 31 December 2015, the last available, revealed the group turned over £341.9m.
Higgs & Sons and Grant Thornton advised WFGL.
