Over 200 runners set off in glorious sunshine for the 9th annual Sowerby Scorcher 10k run, a multi-terrain challenge through the beautiful countryside surrounding the village. Crossing over the Pennines to partake where David Navis in 28th position in 49 mins 55 secs, and Darren Eccles in 58 mins 15 secs.
On Sunday, St Helens ‘Moovers’ headed up to Avenham Park in Preston to take part in the Crazy Cow 10K, another multi-terrain challenge. Our herd came away with cow bells instead of medals! 1st male home was Eric Ranson in 39 mins 56 secs, overall position 23rd. 1st female was Carol Foster in 50 mins 44 secs, also being 1st female in her category.
Other ‘Moovers’ deserving a ‘pat’ on the back; David Brisco (43:00), Paul Denmore (50:48), Nicola Howarth (51:36), Jade Booth (53:14), Amanda Coogan (57:58), Jackie Dobson (1:01:13), Debs Hill (1:03:53) and Lorraine Marshall (1:07:45).
Paul Booth represented St Helens Striders at Southport Triathlon taking in the many landmarks of this seaside resort. The course included a 750m open water swim in the inland Marine Lake, a 20km bike ride, followed by a 5km run around the Lake, Kings Gardens and under the Pier. Paul finished 85th male overall with an impressive time of 2hrs 38 mins.
