A new craft beer shop, selling a wide variety of bottled and canned styles, is set to open this week.
CatHop Beers was born out of a love of quality beer coupled with the desire to champion local breweries. Owners Neil and Samantha have spent the last decade travelling across the UK visiting breweries and specialist bars and have proudly hand-selected some of the best craft beers, ciders and fruit wines currently in the market.
CatHop Beers specialises in small name craft beers as well as more specialist options including vegan and gluten-free beers.
Neil Ashton from Sutton Manor, St Helens spoke passionately about this new venture, saying, “We will specialise in locally brewed produce in our mission to show that some of the top beers around at the moment are produced down the road and not just in the US, Germany and Belgium. We have hand-picked all of the products, so our customers can be confident that our selection of stock showcases the very best of what is around. We will host an ever-changing and expanding collection.”
CatHop Beers will sell a range of modern and traditional craft beers from around the UK and beyond, including products from Neptune Brewery, Torrside Brewing, Rivington Brewing Co., Conwy Brewery, Red Willow Brewery, Connoisseur Ales, Top Rope Brewing, Melwood Beer Co and many more.
The craft beer movement has seen an explosion in the last five years, explained Neil. “The scene has started to chip away at old stereotypes that you either choose a bitter ale or a bubbly lager. People just want to drink quality beer, which can now be anything from light pilsners, through pale ales and session IPAs, hoppy IPAs and American pale ales to strong, chocolatey porters and imperial stouts. The popularity of sour and fruit beers are also on the increase. Some brewers are even pushing the boat out to include more unusual ingredients, such as lobster and langoustine in small-batch beers. Due to the sheer variety and versatility of beer, one of the latest trends is to pair your food with beer, rather than wine.”
Local St Helens brewery, Connoisseur Ales Brewery & Tasting Rooms have thrown their backing behind the new venture. Head brewer Kev said, “An independent bottled beer shop, ran by passionate beer lovers, with a focus on local, national and world beers is just the kind of forward-thinking business that St Helens needs. You have our support and we wish you the best of luck.”
The new business has also gained support from St Helens & Districts CAMRA, their Chair Gillian Yates added, “CAMRA supports all businesses promoting cask and bottle conditioned beers. We’re excited by this addition to the St Helens beer scene and even more pleased to hear that there will be a focus on ‘LocALE’ which is great for the local economy.”
CatHop Beers will also stock a selection of ciders, fruit wines and meads from across the UK.
The shop, which officially opens its doors to customers today, Thursday 3rd August, will also be hosting a celebratory open event on Sunday 13th August, 11.00am – 5.00pm.
