The Bird i’th Hand pub has won the regional Only Ordinary By Name competition from John Smith’s.
The competition was to find those pubs which might seem ordinary at first glance but have an extraordinary story to tell.
The pub will receive a £300 prize and go forward to the National competition where there is a £5,000 prize to be won. That includes £500 for the winning landlord or landlady as a reward for running Britain’s most remarkable pub, and £4,500 to be spent on improvements for customers.
Landlord Les Connor said “A massive thanks to all who voted can’t thank everyone enough”
“Myself, Paul and all the staff are over the moon but couldn’t have done it without the fantastic support of the people of St. Helens over the last 7 years”
“Here’s to the national final and hopefully a visit from paddy mcguinness and a cheque for willowbrook hospice”
Les said the £300 prize would pay for a staff party to thank them for helping make the pub such a success.
