European Youth Boxing Champion Liv Hussey is off to Poland this week to fight for Great Britain.
We spoke with her coach at Hook and Jab gym who said “Liv has been having assessments for GB in Sheffield in recent weeks. “The outcome of this tournament in Poland, which is part of the assessments, will be massive to Olivia’s future.”
“If selected for GB and becomes part of the GB team can only mean a great future. She will not only get paid expenses and a small wage she will also have the opportunity to develop and follow her dream of becoming an international boxer and hopefully potential future Olympics.”
“Olivia is looking in great shape at the moment only having a couple of weeks rest after the Europeans, then getting a call up whilst on her rest meant back in the gym once again giving 100% as she always does.”
“She’s had great sparring with past European senior medalist Stacey Copeland as well as Olympic competitor and ex GB boxer Natasha Jonas.”
“Liv is hitting harder than ever and maturing and developing into the 69kg weight category. This is a outstanding achievement for Liv and the whole of Hook & Jab are cheering her on behind her all the way.”
“Olivia deserves this so much, she is like a sponge in training, implementing a few new moves of which she’s mastered working inside with confidence. We all wish Olivia the very best of luck.
“The tournament itself is hosted in Poland where there will be a number of experienced youth and senior boxers from all over the world participating although we all have every faith that Liv will bring that medal home”
Liv became European Youth Boxing Champion in July when she beat Natalia Barbusinska from Poland to secure the top spot and gold medal in the 69kg category.
