The Art Club St Helens is a great organisation. They were formed over 100 years ago and are still going strong today.
During October you will get a chance to see work created by members of the Club. With fifty or so very enthusiastic members, some of whom have been with the club for many many years, you will be sure to find a variety of work on show.
We spoke with sue White to find out more about the Club and the exhibition, she said “We do not have a full-time tutor, but we do have a programme of activities which members can follow if they wish to.”
“We give out a monthly bulletin detailing the various things going on each week such as, portrait painting, still life, painting from photographs, and when the weather permits we go outside to paint and draw.”
“The World of Glass kindly allow and encourage us to wander around and paint in the gallery or the tunnels, so we are not just stuck in a room all the time.”
“We have had quite a few new members this year from beginners to more advanced artists, who paint in many different mediums such as oils, acrylics, watercolours, pen and ink, pastels etc.”
“People come along just to enjoy their hobby, socialise and make new like-minded friends. We have various days out visiting exhibitions, and we have demonstrations from various artists”
“We hold life classes about once per month, and are always looking for new ideas and suggestions for the Club for our members.”
The Exhibition takes place from the 2nd to 21st October in the event area of St Marys Market.
There will be a preview evening on Thursday 5th October from 6 – 8pm. Refreshments will be available and everyone is welcome.
They meet at The World of Glass Arts and Heritage Centre every Saturday
