Last Saturday saw Ruskin Drive Sports Village as the host venue for the prestige North West Counties Rugby League Finals.
Teams travelled from all over the region including Saddle worth Rochadale and Oldham with local interest provided by Thatto Heath.
With the first of 6 games kicking off at 9.30am North West League Chairman Stuart Prior commented “It’s hard to find a venue that can host 6 games back to back and we have a top-quality playing service and facilities for the players and spectators to play, support and enjoy”
Councilor Sue Murphy Portfolio Holder for Libraries and Leisure said – Ruskin Drive is now acknowledged as one of the premier sports facilities across the North West and an event of this significance can only enhance its reputation.
I would also like to thank all the hard working volunteers, especially those from Pilkington Recs and staff who have put together this event some who would have started out at 7am this morning and didn’t get home until late.
Games were highly contested throughout the day and the final game of the event saw Thatto Heath A beat local rivals Orrell St James 26 -12 in the Premiership Final and Thatto Heath’s Tom Rigby named Man of the Match
