St Helens Libraries Service and St Helens Council’s Healthy Living Team teamed up over the October half-term holiday to deliver a deFRIGHTful Halloween themed event for families in the Eccleston area of St Helens.
The event, which saw over 50 people take part in spooky craft sessions including pumpkin and mask making, was held at Eccleston Library as a way of promoting the council’s Five Ways to Wellbeing campaign which encourages children to ‘keep learning’, ‘take notice’, ‘be active’, ‘be creative’ and to ‘connect’ with others.
Captain Tuck, Healthy Living’s pirate lion mascot, even made an appearance to lead a fun walk around Ecclesfield to encourage children to get active for 60 minutes each day through his family orientated nature walk and games, before the group sat down to tuck into a healthy lunch with the Community Food Team.

St Helens Council’s Cabinet Member for Libraries and Leisure Services, Councillor Sue Murphy, said: “It’s great to see so many families turn out to support events like this which offers children fun, creative and healthy things to do in the school holidays.
“A tremendous amount of praise deserves to go to the staff for putting this event together, and its impressive uptake emphasises the important role libraries play in the community.”
