Wirral AC hosted the Merseyside Cross Country Championships at Arrowe Park, Wirral on Saturday 6 January. The Striders’ men’s team was made up of James Allen, Jon-Jo Doherty, Peter Fairclough, Richard Seville, Mark Riley, Paul Booth, Paul Brown, Brian Middleton and Mark Hamilton. James Allen was the first Strider to finish in 19th place. The men’s team finished 5th overall in the County.
Rachael Fairclough, Kelly Hamilton and Joanne Jackson turned out for the ladies. Kelly Hamilton was the first Strider to finish the ladies race in 7th place and picked up a medal for finishing first female from a club that had not won an individual or team prize.
On Sunday 7th January, David Navis competed in the Wirral Way Trail Half Marathon, which marked his first half marathon since returning to running in August 2017. David finished in a time of 1:36:14.
Meanwhile, Rob Andrews competed in the Central Lancashire Half Marathon, which also marked his 7th consecutive day of running since the New Year as part of his RED January challenge. Rob completed the race in 1:45:38.
