Writer Sue Gerrard will be giving a talk called ‘Behind the Cover’ which takes a look behind the writing of her successful book ‘St. Helens Now and Then.’, at Thatto Thatto Heath Library in February.
Her book “St Helens Now And Then” was the best selling book in Wardleworths Bookshop in Westfield Street over the festive period beating David Attenborough’s ‘Blue Planet’ into second place and Jamie Oliver’s ‘5 Ingredients’ into third.
Sue said “In 2018, St. Helens, my home town, will celebrate its 150th anniversary. This book looks at the fascinating history of the town which began life as four townships with the Chapel of St. Elyn in the centre.”
“Included is the history of Windleshaw Chantry through to the discovery of coal and the town’s worldwide and unique place in the development of canals and railways.”
“It also looks at the town’s growth during the Industrial Revolution and the iconic locations within St. Helens.”
The event takes place at Thatto Heath Library on Friday 23rd February from 2 to 3pm. It is FREE but places must be booked by ringing the library on 01744 677842.
