St Helens College Tops A level Progress Tables In Merseyside

St Helens College has been recognised in the Department for Education A level performance tables as the best General Further Education College in Merseyside for A level progress.

The report demonstrates the impressive progress students make after completing their GCSEs at high school through to the end of their A level studies at St Helens College’s A Level Academy. The impressive progress that students make places the College as the third best A level provider in St Helens.

The A Level Academy at St Helens College offers over 19 A level subjects and three bespoke Professional Skills Programmes, designed to maximise students’ potential to enable them to compete for entry to top universities and coveted professions. With small class sizes and tailored support, students are able to successfully progress on to university, a higher apprenticeship and ultimately, their dream career.

A Level Academy alumna and Connecting Classroom to Career Ambassador, Shannon Heaton, achieved two A*s and a B on A level results day, exceeding her predicted grades and securing a place at her first choice university, The University of Manchester to read Law combined with Psychology. She said, “Studying at the A Level Academy has developed my confidence and independence. My tutors are fantastic and the relationship that you develop with them, is really beneficial when you are trying to excel in an environment. They push and motivate you to be the best that you can be.”

This result comes following the recent success on A level results day with the A Level Academy boasting an outstanding 100% pass rate in Mathematics, History, English Language, English Literature, Sociology, Psychology and Religious Studies.

Anne Pryer, Principal of St Helens College, said, “What these results highlight, is the fantastic progress made by students upon joining the A Level Academy. We pride our offer on smaller class sizes with intensive support from outstanding, academic tutors, which we believe contributes to the success of our students. We are delighted at this result, being recognised as the top A level provider for progress in Merseyside.”
