Telecommunications giant Huawei will award £20,000 to one successful entrepreneur, with a further £5,000 awarded to two other businesses.
The “Make It Possible Fund” will support three British start-ups. Huawei has introduced the fund after discovering 15 per cent of Brits believe they’re living up to their potential. Some 69 per cent of people admit they’ve abandoned New Year’s resolutions already, despite the fact 77 per cent started 2018 with plans to achieve their ambitions.
A key factor holding people back, the report found, was money – 57 per cent of respondents feel finances act as a barrier. The average Brit invests £7,063 to get business plans off the ground.
Entrepreneurs can enter the competition by completing an online application form which asks the question: “What would you do with the Make it Possible Bursary?” – using no more than 500 words and one image to reflect their entry.
Steven Bartlett, the CEO of Social Chain and Huawei ambassador, said “Like Huawei, I want to champion creativity in the UK and know how important it is when you are looking to do something new to not only having funds available but also the confidence that comes from people believing in your ideas, which is why I am so pleased to be working with Huawei as they launch the Make it Possible Bursary.
“Everyone should be able to make their passion project a reality and Huawei’s bursary gives people a chance, whatever their goal to do just that.”
Further results from the Huawei research showed that 21 million Brits want to start their own company. In terms of interests, creativeness is prominent – 35 per cent of people want to invest in photography and film, 26 per cent want to build a blog, Instagram or YouTube channel.
Additionally, looking at the wider world around, 36 per cent want to make a difference to their community and a third want to get involved with a charity.
James Jie, UK MD, Huawei, said: “At Huawei we believe in inspiring and empowering individuals to unlock their potential. With the Make It Possible Bursary we hope not only to help the individuals who win the bursary to fulfil their long held goals but to inspire people across the country to believe that they can make 2018 the year they achieve their ambitions.”
