Lauren Bate from Haydock made her elite world championships debut in Apeldoorn, paired up with Olympic bronze medallist Katy Marchant in the team sprint.
Bate went into the event in good form, having set two new personal bests during her maiden world cup appearance for the Great Britain Cycling Team in Minsk in January.
Lauren and Katy finished 6th in the team sprint last night. That’s a good result at this stage for them, it was their first time racing together as Lauren has only recently been moved up from junior racing. It was also a new personal best for Lauren.
Well my world champs was over in a flash ⚡️ First team sprint together for me and Katy and we finished 6th in the world, pretty bloomin’ happy with that! And a nice little PB for me ?? Incredibly proud to be here ?? pic.twitter.com/dUKGmTdoNd

That’s Lauren’s only event in this tournament due to the qualifying process which is based on points gained from the previous year. Katy will carry on racing in the remaining sprint events.
