Staff and students on the BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting degree at University Centre St Helens are preparing to showcase their work at a special three-day exhibition.
The popular BA2 exhibition, now in its ninth year, showcases the work of second year BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting students. It gives an opportunity to demonstrate their wealth of thematic and conceptual knowledge as they reach the culmination of their second year of studies. Providing students with the opportunity to gain invaluable practical experience, the BA2 exhibition aims to provide students with real life, hands on experience.
Wayne Robinson, programme leader for the BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting degree course, commenting ahead of the exhibition said, “The BA2 exhibition provides students with the experience of preparing to exhibit in a live exhibition. Students acquire the skills and attitudes required for professional presentation including selection, hanging and working to key deadlines. The exhibition provides invaluable professional practice with hands-on, real life experience that is preparing students for life and industry.”
Gary Mitchell, one of the students who will be exhibiting during BA2 further commented “The opportunity to exhibit my paintings in a public space is a great chance to showcase how much my work has developed in the past eighteen months. The exhibition requires careful planning and advertising, including the creation of an invite, a catalogue and decisions on how to hang our work both safely and in a manner which achieves the best aesthetic effect. BA2 provides a chance to work as part of a team, demonstrating professional practice and presentation, as well as demonstrating other key elements of being a contemporary artist. I am looking forward to seeing how people respond to my work.”
The BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting Degree at University Centre St Helens is one of only a few in the UK of its type, allowing students to study in a specialist environment from day one, enabling students to find and study an individual style, as well as giving them a deeper understanding of established painting principles. This knowledge allows students to innovate, experiment and develop confidence with a wide range of creative, technical, philosophical, and aesthetic processes within fine art painting.
The exhibition takes place at the Pilkington Gallery, Heart of Glass from 10am to 4pm daily. Running from Wednesday 18 April 2018 until Friday 20 April 2018, the exhibition is free to attend. They welcome visits from school groups and members of the public.
