St Helens 6 – 1 South Manchester
As good as we’ve been all season….that was the general feeling. Going into the game our opponents sat in 2nd place and had an impressive run of results but they came up against a team who outplayed them in every aspect for the majority of the game.
Manchester started brightly and within a few minutes they’d taken a 1 goal lead but prior to that and immediately after it was obvious that the goal was against the run of play and following that we gave them nothing. With our midfield dominating and defense repelling anything Manchester tried to throw at us we were able to give our forwards the chance to do some damage. Goals from Paul Horton (2), Mick Maloney, Lewis Robinson, Phil Travis & Danny Taylor helped inflict the heaviest defeat of the season on Manchester.
It’s fair to say though that all 13 today played their part in a great result, even after going down to 8 men following a bit of handbags for 10 minutes we were able to control the game.
That’s 27 goals scored and just 1 conceded over the last 3 games and we’ve found form again, unfortunately still it looks unlikely that we’ll grab that 2nd position and get promoted but we’ll keep battling away.
In all, a very good performance…as good as we’ve had all season and with 2 games to go promotion isn’t yet out of the question.
Well played all.
A great team effort today saw us beat South Manchester 6-1 at home. Still a feint chance of finishing 2nd but today it’s just good really have put in such a performance pic.twitter.com/3AvejYMvsQ
