A number of the borough’s primary and secondary schools took part in the Merseyside
School Games Finals across February and March. Competing in badminton, gymnastics,
sportshall athletics, girl’s football and basketball, the schools achieved a great deal of
success:

  • Legh Vale Primary School took the gold medals for the third successive year in the
    Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics
  • Rainford High School were victorious and were gold medalists in the Year 8 Boys
    Sportshall Athletics
  • Cowley High School finished with bronze medals in the Key Stage 3 Boys & Key Stage
4 Girls Badminton as well as in the Year 7 Boys Sportshall Athletics

A culmination of intra and inter-school competitions held so far this academic year, the
Merseyside School Games Finals provided the youngsters with the opportunity to test their
skills against their peers from the other five Merseyside boroughs.

Further Merseyside School Games Finals will be held throughout the rest of the academic
year, with Year 7 & 8 Netball next up at the end of April. The finals then move onto the
Merseyside School Games Summer Finals Days at Wavertree Sports Park on Wednesday 4th
and Thursday 5th July.

Well done to all of the schools that competed in the Merseyside School Games Finals and
congratulations to all the medalists!
