St Helens Scouts Success At Regional Competition

Great Escape is a County wide competition ran every year by Merseyside Scout Association. The Great Escape is a challenging competition for Scouts requiring teamwork, leadership, and initiative.

This year, on the weekend of 24th / 25th March, 72 patrols (teams) entered from across Merseyside. 6 patrols were entered from St Helens representing Billinge, Blackbrook, Haydock and Windle. The event took place at Tawd Vale Scout campsite.

Patrols were required to visit 15 different bases – a challenge awaited them at each. Each challenge is on the theme of ‘escape’ and runs along the lines of a ‘now get out of that / crystal maze’ type theme. Patrols were awarded points on their success and teamwork for each base.

On the Sunday, Patorols were invited to participate in the Great Escape ‘Best Patrol Theme’ competition. To participate in this patrols have to attend their Sunday bases dressed in some kind of themed outfit. The more innovative the theme the greater chance of winning. Themes could include – adventure, medical, medieval or anything else the patrols imagination can conjure up!

Out of the 72 patrols, 26th Blackbrook were awarded joint 2nd place. A fantastic effort from all involved.

They were also adjudged to be the winners of the “Best Themed Patrol”.

26th Blackbrook were also successful at the Lord Derby 999 Competition, read about that here => https://www.sthelensunlimited.co.uk/2018/03/22/st-helens-scouts-to-represent-merseyside-at-regional-competition/
