Arts Council England is to invest £38.6 million of funding into Youth Music, a national charity investing in music-making projects for children and young people in challenging circumstances, between 2018-2022.
Each year, Youth Music funds around 350 music-making projects nationwide, reaching more than 75,000 children and young people. This work supports the musical, personal and social development of children and young people, as well as developing positive outcomes for the organisations it invests in and their workforce by funding diverse, creative and inclusive music-making projects wherever they’re needed most.
Youth Making’s funding programme is made up of three separate funds:
- Fund A offers small grants (£2,000 to £30,000) for high quality music-making projects.
- Fund B offers medium-sized grants (30,001 – £100,000 per year for up to two years) for larger programmes of work.
- Fund C offers grants (£100,000 to £160,000) for strategic programmes to help embed sustainable, inclusive music-making across a local area.
Charities, not for profit organisations and schools are all eligible to apply, however, schools will however have to show how to activities to be funded do not duplicate Department of Education funding.
Previous projects funded include:
Positive Youth Foundation’s Changing Trax project in Coventry, where young people played a key part in the city’s successful bid to become the UK City of Culture 2021
Tang Hall Smart CIC in York, where young people with learning disabilities are developing their composition and performance skills in rock and rap workshops.

Round 13: Friday 24 August 2018, 5pm
Round 14: Friday 7 December 2018, 5pm
Fund B:
Round 8 Stage 1: Friday 18 May 2018, 5pm
Round 9 Stage 1: Friday 9 November 2018, 5pm
Fund C:
