Flying on the wings of success

It’s been an exciting few weeks for the Travel and Tourism department at St Helens College, as this year’s budding Cabin Crew students graduate from their College course and gain their official wings, ready to launch their high flying careers in the sky.

The level 2 Diploma in Cabin Crew students will take to the skies this Summer after successfully securing employment with some of the industry’s top global airlines, including; Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Thomas Cook and Jet2.com, where they will be based at some of the UK’s largest international airports, from Manchester to Heathrow.

All of the students did exceptionally well with 16 out of 19 securing employment with airlines, airports and travel operators. Five of those have graduated specifically from the Jet2.com training programme, passing all 33 exams with 100% pass marks.

The cabin crew courses delivered at St Helens College are tailored to support the career aspirations of students, and enable them to take advantage of industry links such as visiting guest speakers, wet drill training, Mandarin lessons and familiarisation flights with Jet2.com.

Charlotte Richardson, a recent graduate from the level 2 Diploma in Cabin Crew, was awarded her wings at the Thomas Cook ceremony earlier this week and will be based at Manchester Airport this summer, flying long and short haul routes to some of the world’s most popular destinations.

Commenting on her time at St Helens College, Charlotte said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the course. It’s been great working with tutors who have first-hand experience of the industry, which has been perfect for preparing my skills, from customer service and check-in to dispatch. I’d recommend the course to anyone with a passion for travel, it’s the perfect gateway into the industry.”

She added, “My first operational flight is to Alicante, a route that I am already familiar with after taking part in the familiarisation flight with Jet2.com as part of my course! Having that experience has prepared me for what to expect and I can’t wait to see the world.”

Proud tutor, Richard King, went the extra mile to surprise his students at their wings ceremonies, travelling across the UK in his spare time to show his support during their special day. He said, “I am so very proud of all our students and their outstanding achievements. It has been amazing to see their development throughout the course, and to see so many of them secure employment in such a competitive industry, as well as graduate with flying colours! I am so very proud of all of them and look forward to seeing their careers develop in the future.”
