Shouldn’t Throw Stones – The View of a Night Watchman
A Photography exhibition and site tours of the ex Pilkington Glass HQ By Kevin Casey takes place in May. Tickets are FREE but limited in number.
This exhibition is the culmination of a two-year project undertaken by artist Kevin Casey. Part documentary photography, part archival re-presentation and part making ends meet, as Casey’s ‘night job’ as an on-site security guard at the former Pilkington Glass Headquarters became his ‘day job’ as an artist, the work presented tells the story of an uncertain future, tense present and captivating past.

Made In Dagenham, The Musical
Thursday 14th to Saturday 16th June.
Essex 1968. Like millions of other working women, each morning Rita O’Grady is just trying to get her husband out of bed, get the kids off to school and get to work at the factory on time. But life is about to change forever when it’s announced that the girls in the stitching room of Ford’s Dagenham car plant will have their pay grade dropped to ‘unskilled’. Quickly drawing on a strength she never knew she had, Rita leads her friends in a battle against the might of Ford and the corruption of the Union supposed to protect them. As the girls’ inspiring journey gets bigger than anyone could have imagined, the pressure is too much for some, but can Rita keep up the fight and the happy home she’s worked so hard for?
Funny, touching and timeless, Made in Dagenham shows how ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they stand together.

Visions of Another World.
Smithy Heritage Centre Saturday 31 March – Saturday 22 September 2018 Open Saturdays and Sundays, 1-4pm. Admission is FREE!
2018 marks 200 years since the publication of what is often cited as being the first work of science fiction, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. H.G. Wells and Jules Verne conjured other realms, envisioning the invention of fanciful vehicles which could travel through time and space.
Technological advances have had a profound influence on literature, unlocking new possibilities for authors, artists and filmmakers; some modern gadgets have even been developed from fictional ones!
This fascinating and fun exhibition looks at the impact science fiction has had on popular culture. Come and spot your favourite characters and find out more about them. They will be hosting Smithy Con on Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 September, 10am-5pm, feel free to dress up!
The Smithy is all on one level with limited on-site parking, accessible amenities and baby changing facilities. It’s Dog Friendly too, so the whole family can visit!

for 5-11 year olds. Sessions are £7 per child.
The activities are a fun and interactive way to enrich your child’s learning, as all the activities are linked to the National Curriculum. They cover a wide range of topics from English, Maths and Science, to Geography, History and Arts, all in the natural outdoor environment. They also cover essential life skills such as communication, team building and leadership through the power of creative play, fun activities and team challenges.
We are designed to walk, and it keeps us healthy. Humans are also meant to be social creatures, having friends and companions is another well known ‘extender’ of life expectancy. So why not combine the two and take part in a one-hour social walk in the beautiful countryside around Greenslate Farm? Supported by Wigan Council and ‘Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles,’ the one hour long walking sessions take placed every Thursday from 11:00 am until Midday. These walks will start and end at the farm. But best of all, they won’t cost you anything unless you end up going for a brew with your new walking companions at the Straw Bale Cafe. (all new walkers need to register 15 minutes before).
