Young musicians from across St Helens are hoping to take their talents on a tour of Northern France and Belgium later this year, but they need help from local people.
The young people – members of St Helens Council’s Music Service – and their parents are set to launch a fundraising campaign, hoping to reach £1,000 to help fund the trip.
The tour would consist of four nights and five days away on the Continent, with members of the Youth Orchestra and Youth Choir performing in two concerts.
The fundraiser is being kick-started with a clothing collection, followed next month by a special ticketed Music Service concert on Friday 20 July at the YMCA Sports Hall, where the aspiring musicians will perform and host a cake sale, with stalls of bric-a-brac and books.
Elsewhere, the group hopes to raise funds at the borough’s Armed Forces Day celebration (Saturday 23 June) at Victoria Park, performing and running games and activities from their own gazebo.
The group will also be holding a raffle throughout the upcoming Lost in Music concerts (Monday 2-5 July), with some great prizes up for grabs.
Head of Music Service, Dr Jeremy Sleith said: “This tour would be a fantastic opportunity for the young people in our service to grow their confidence and to develop their music skills, and we hope local people can help support their dream.”
If you or your company would like to sponsor the group or offer any donations to help with the fundraising please contact Nicki Skrzypczak on 01744 677946.
The Music Service is always open to new members, welcoming all children and young people who live or learn in the borough.
The Music Service provides a wide range of activities and opportunities that seek to encourage all children and young people to participate, enjoy and achieve through music. This is delivered through high quality music education and performance opportunities that awaken and nurture talent and creativity, build self-esteem, instil discipline and bring the joy of music to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
