Local businessman Jeff Wilson, 52, will be heading up a team of 23 friends and work colleagues as they cycle 80 miles from St Helens to the Isle of Man next week to raise money for Willowbrook Hospice.
The cycle challenge is in memory of Jeff’s wife Gina who was cared for at the hospice, before sadly losing her brave battle against cancer on 17 July 2017, aged just 49.
Gina was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2014 but after numerous operations and treatments was admitted to Willowbrook where she spent her final days.
Jeff says: “Everyone at Willowbrook was so lovely – not only to Gina but also to myself and our daughter Beth. All the staff from the cleaners right up to the top consultants were so genuine, warm and compassionate. When you’re going through the worst time in your life, it was really reassuring to have so support around us.
“Like many people who’ve had their loved ones cared for at Willowbrook, I really wanted to give something back to the hospice for everything they did for us and to help ensure that they can continue to care and support other families.
“Although none of our team are exactly pro-cyclists, we’re all determined to take on the challenge and have been amazed by the support we’ve received already, raising over £2, 200 in memory of Gina.
“We might all be saddle sore at the end of the ride, but we’ll be so proud and happy to cross our ‘finishing line’.
