The Margaret Whittle Cup, the annual St Helens Primary Schools competition, took place at Newton ARLFC recently.
Sutton Oak, Booker Ave, St Austin’s, Wargrave, St Aidan’s, Lyme, Brook Lodge, St Julie’s, English Martyrs, Thatto Heath, Nutgrove and St Peter and Paul’s all competed for the coveted trophy – but it was Legh Vale and Bleak Hill who contested the final.
And it took a Golden Point try to seal the win for Bleak Hill.
Adam Swift was one of the first team players at the event and he said: “I think this event is fantastic. The number of children taking part in rugby events, especially this one, across the town is superb.
“I saw some cracking games and it’s great how everyone is getting involved.”
The day was made extra special for all of the kids as the Saints First Team Squad made an appearance to sign autographs, pose for photographs and chat with fans of all ages.
Everyone at Saints Community Development Foundation would like to thank all the teams that took part to make it another fantastic annual event!
