The Organisational Development (OD) team from Torus won the Best HR team award at the recent HR Excellence Awards held in London.
This award recognises HR teams for their innovative approach to people management and business partnering with other functions.
The OD team was recognised for pioneering a change programme affecting 850 employees against a backdrop of welfare reform challenges and the government’s announcement to cut rent, which is the primary source of income for Torus.
Led by Penny Aspden, Director of OD , the team have overseen a restructure and change programme which included the development of a new suite of systems, new terms and conditions and building capability to enable all its employees to access professional study and learning opportunities.
As a result, the OD team has contributed to the overall cost reduction of £17 million over four years for Torus, fostered a unique ‘We Are One’ culture and achieved IIP Gold award.
The award judges felt that Torus was a fantastic example of the power of simplifying and starting over and praised Torus for acting in a clear, distinctive and business-orientated way. It might have been tough but as one judge said, Torus “undoubtedly turned the dial on the organisation and in doing so showed us exactly what an exemplary HR team looks like.”
