Arriva launches search to find local heroes

Arriva is launching a search to find local heroes in St. Helens in honour of the town’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

From the 2nd until 31st July, the people of St.Helens are being asked to nominate their local hero, whether it’s a local youth group supervisor supporting kids in the community, volunteers at a local charity shop or a hardworking mum, Arriva wants to hear all about it.

The lucky winner will have a bus named after them on a popular bus route in St.Helens, as well as receiving an annual bus pass worth £615 and £250 worth of Love to Shop vouchers.

Lisa Pearson from Arriva North West & Wales said “With so many amazing people to come out of St.Helens over the last 150 years, from Johnny Vegas to Thomas Beecham and Chris Foy, we couldn’t think of a better way to show our appreciation for the people who continue to make St.Helens a great place today.”

Entrants will be asked to submit no more than 150 words via the Arriva website, explaining why this person is their local hero. A panel of Arriva judges will then assess all applications and crown the winner in a bus naming ceremony that will take place in August.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary further, throughout the month of July, Arriva will also be launching a weekly competition on social media where one lucky winner will be in for a chance to win a 3D cut-glass bus paperweight and an Arriva Weekly Saver ticket.
