Families are invited to hop down to town later next week where CBeebies stars Bing & Flop will be in attendance on the opening day of the annual Summer Beach attraction.
Join them in Church Square on Friday 27 July between 11am -3pm for hourly meet and greet sessions which will see Church Square Shopping Centre mascot, Shopper Whopper, on hand to entertain the crowd during breaks.
A host of other much-loved characters will also visit St Helens over the summer during Summer Beach, including Disney’s Ariel, Moana, Maui, Peter Pan and Hook (Friday 3 August); Superheroes and Princesses (Friday 17 August) – while on Friday 31 August, Church Square will ‘come alive’ as part of a ‘Greatest Showman’ themed day featuring circus workshops, dance shows, and much more besides.
Complete with a large beach area for youngsters to tackle with their buckets and spades – and a fantastic children’s funfair – Summer Beach will be open every day from 10:30am to 5:30pm until Saturday 1 September.
The Mayor and Mayoress of St Helens, Councillor Pat Ireland and Lynn Glover will officially open the attraction at 12:00pm on Friday 27 July.
Commenting on the importance of keeping young ones protected when out playing in the sun, Councillor Gill Neal, St Helens Council’s Cabinet Member for Better Health, added: “While most of us enjoy the glorious weather and like to have fun in the sun, it is vital to remember the importance of staying safe by applying sunscreen – even on cloudy days – using factor 15 and above products that are effective against UVA and UVB.
“It’s also essential to keep ourselves hydrated during the warm weather, taking in plenty of cold liquids such as water and diluted fruit juice – while avoiding beverages high in sugar.
“Clothing can also play a big part in staying protected against the sun – with loose clothing, sun hats and sunglasses advised.”
