Update from Merseyside Police – We can confirm that a body found in the Haydock area this afternoon (21st July) is that of a missing man from #NewtonLeWillows. Following formal identification, the man is reported to be 41 y/o Richard Smith, who had been reported missing yesterday evening (20th July). After extensive enquiries yesterday and today, emergency services were called to a wooded area near Cooper Lane in Haydock at 4.20pm but sadly, Richard was pronounced dead at the scene. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a file has been passed to the coroner. Mr Smith’s next of kin have been informed and police officers are providing them with support at this very difficult time.
