The family of Jack Platt made the following announcement via the Find Jack Platt Facebook page last night.
“A day of mixed emotions. This will be our last post on this page – it did exactly what it hoped it would – it helped us to find Dad.
“I wish that I could tell you that the story ended there but sadly Dad passed this evening – the recovery from hypothermia was too much for his body and he slipped away in the company of people that loved him.
“I need you to know that – but that’s not what I want you to remember from this.
“I want you to remember that we got our victory – he wasn’t alone and he knew at the end that he was loved.
“I want you also to remember that our small town rallied together to help a man that they’d never met or even heard about. People gave up their weekends and their family time to help someone. The support and help from you all has been overwhelming and my family and I are in your debt for it.
“Thank you all for your help and support over the last few harrowing days – as a family we’re blessed with great friends and have been given great strength by the community that has taken Dad/Granddad/Jack into their hearts.
“I will post details at a later date about the funeral when we’ve made the arrangements but I would ask (in the same spirit that you offered your help) for you to send any thoughts through this page and not to message us personally at this tough time.
“Thanks for all you did – the sharing, the searching and the finding – we put a tall order out there and you delivered.
“It may not feel like it but we won.”
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of friends of Jack.
