Staff and students at the St Helens College A Level Academy celebratedg an outstanding 100% overall A level pass rate yesterday.
Whilst the overall A level pass rate has fallen nationally, St Helens College has once again excelled with the majority of students securing places at their first choice universities across the UK, including University of Birmingham, Edge Hill University and University of Plymouth and Russell Group university, University of Liverpool.
Core A level subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and English Literature also achieved an outstanding 100% pass rate.
Anne Pryer, Principal of St Helens College said, “We are so incredibly proud of our students and everything that they have achieved both personally and academically during their time with us. We are boasting some fantastic successes this year with the full student cohort progressing to university in September including University Centre St Helens.”
These impressive results build on the College’s 2017 achievements which placed the College at the top of the Department for Education performance tables as the best General Further Education College in Merseyside for A level progress and the third best A level provider in St Helens.
Aspiring Psychologist and one of our top performers, Elesha, is celebrating her incredible success with her family today after achieving A, B, B in Sociology, Law, and Psychology. She says, “I can’t put into words how happy I am to have secured my place at the University of Liverpool to study Psychology. My tutors have been so supportive, always going the extra mile with revision sessions, feedback and guidance. It just shows that hard work really does pay off and I’m now looking forward to university in September!”
High flying student, Leah, is hoping to become a Criminologist, she says, “I am so pleased with my grades B, B, B in Religious Studies, Business and Sociology. It has been a challenging journey at times but it has all been worth it now that I have secured my place at Manchester Metropolitan University to study Criminology with Sociology! I have really enjoyed my time at the A Level Academy and will really miss my tutors.”
St Helens College’s A Level Academy offers over 19 A level subjects, three unique Professional Skills Programmes, smaller class sizes and individualised support from tutors, creating an aspirational learning environment in which students can excel in.
Ellie celebrated gaining her place at University of Plymouth to study Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies with International Relations, she says, “I’m so happy that I’ve achieved A, B, C, C in EPQ, Sociology, Law and Psychology as I am hoping to work for the government one day as an Intelligence Analyst. I have received so much support from my tutors, both academically and personally, which has helped me to achieve what I have today.”
History buff, Tom, is off to Manchester Metropolitan University in September, he says, “I’ve always had an interest in History and I am so excited that I have been able to secure my place at my first choice university to study Ancient History. My tutors were always approachable and supportive which made studying at the A Level Academy such an amazing experience.”

We are extremely proud of our students’ dedication, hard work and focus over the last two years, which has contributed to them achieving a fantastic set of results, securing places at some of the top universities in the country.”
