Latest news from St Helens Striders Running Club

Despite August being a quiet month in terms of racing, speedy sisters Kylie and Sian Maguire managed to fit in two races this week. First up was the Mid-Cheshire 5k on Thursday where Sian secured a personal best time of 23:45 with Kylie finishing in 21:26. On Saturday they raced again at the Blackpool Illuminations 10k, this time joined by their mum, Sue Heaps. Sue finished the race in an impressive 51:15 placing her as third fastest in her age category. Main photo shows Sue with daughters Kylie and Sian at the Blackpool Illuminations 10k.

Marathon lady Colette Flaherty was at it again on Friday evening competing in the gruelling UCLAN track marathon. As well as the physical demands of the discipline, this event took huge mental strength to complete as it involved 27 laps which can be incredibly dull and the temptation to drop out can be overwhelming. Colette got through the pain barrier to finish the event as 3rd lady in a time of 4:09:32.

On Sunday Striders Peter Teeling and Debs Hill braved the cold and rain to complete the Run for Rhys 5k. Further afield, Ironman Paul Booth took some time out from his holiday to Cornwall to swim 3k in the Polkerris Swim Festival finishing in an incredible 1 hour and 2 minutes.
