This week saw St. Helens Sutton A.C. athletes both compete and host their annual event ‘The Dream Trail Races’.
The Dream races take in the scenic trails and hills of Sutton Manor Park, and this year saw the biggest entry list yet, with over 260 runners set to compete.
First off was the 5km at 10am, which saw St. Helens Strider and second claim Sutton member Jon-Jo Doherty retain his winner title from last year and break his own course record by well over 20 seconds, he was followed home by Jamie Ford of Liverpool Harriers, and Will Kozer of Widnes Running Club. The women’s race was won by Sale Harrier, Zoe Gmerek, followed by Sutton’s own Jade Smith and St. Helens Striders Ann Johnson.
In the 10km Jon-Jo managed to repeat his double win of 2017, with Joe Ford, Jamie’s older brother chasing him down for 2nd, followed by St. Helens Striders Peter Fairclough. In the Ladies race Wigan Harrier, Danielle Brearton took the win, followed by Sutton’s Sonya Monaghan, and Widens’ Marina Maxwell.
Away from the Dream Trail Race, Sutton members also competed at the final Cheshire league of the season, with several debut performances and a number of PB’s (Results yet to be published as of print).
Jade Smith in addition to her second place at the Dream 5km, also competed at the wet and windy Podium 5k in Barrowford on Monday missing her PB by 7 seconds with 21:27, which she then disappointed by that performance corrected on Friday night in Lancaster at the Powerof5k race, where she ran 20:26.
