Mobile phone tariffs are having a bit of a moment right now, what with SIM only customers soaring, and O2 changing up tradition by giving you complete free rein over how much data, minutes and monthly costs you want.
Enabling customers to switch to the latest smartphone models at any time without having to wait until the end of their contract, EE customers can now choose exactly when they trade in their device and upgrade their handset absolutely free of charge halfway through their 24-month contract.
You’ll be able to upgrade at any point from 15 days after opening the contract, as long as you’re on one of EE’s Upgrade Anytime plans, although doing so in the first year will illicit an upgrade fee (in the first six months it’s £200, while £100 fee applies between six and twelve months).
You will need to trade-in your old handset in order to sign up to the new 24-month contract, so it might not be an option to everyone.
Although not all plans come with Upgrade Anytime, the new Upgrade Anytime plans simply give you the additional benefit of early upgrades on top of your usual Max plan, so you’ll still get the same benefits as usual (such as access to the BT Sport app and inclusive roaming to over 50 destinations around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico and the USA), plus the Upgrade Anytime capability.
Edward Goff, Marketing Director, EE, said: “We’re seeing more and more outstanding devices launched every year, and many customers don’t want to wait 24 months to upgrade.
“So we’re introducing new Upgrade Anytime plans, to ensure they can get the latest smartphones in their hands when they want them, and stay connected with the most advanced 4G network in the UK.”
The move forms part of EE’s ‘Best Connected’ plan to provide customers with the best connections, the most personal and local service, and the best smartphone experiences in the UK.
