A local community group enjoyed an extra special day out at SEA LIFE Blackpool and The Blackpool Tower after winning an exclusive competition with Arriva.
Wednesday 29th August saw 40 people from the Fingerpost Community Group enjoy a private trip on board an Arriva bus to Blackpool, where the group enjoyed a trip up to the top of Blackpool Tower and a day out at SEA LIFE.
The summer day out follows a region wide search across the North West to find and reward a local, deserving group with a free day out. Three groups were shortlisted to win in each region and 2,148* votes later, and Fingerpost Community Group, were crowned the winners by members of the public.
Harold Murphy, Community Chair of Fingerpost Community Group commented: “When we were first shortlisted to win the competition, never in our wildest dreams did we think we would win.
I think it’s safe to say that everyone had a truly fantastic time, and a day out that we’ll remember and hold close to our hearts for a long time. It really was the perfect way to end such a wonderful British summer.”
The competition, which launched to celebrate Catch the Bus Week, (2nd-8th July) invited the public to nominate a local community group which they believed deserved to win a free day out. Fingerpost Community Group won the competition after going head to head against Team Oasis and People First in July, after they were shortlisted by a panel of Arriva judges.
Lisa Pearson, for Arriva North West added: “We’re delighted to hear how much the Fingerpost Community Group enjoyed their day out, it was a real pleasure to see so many smiles and happy faces all around. It seems that the people of Fingerpost Community Group have really managed to end their summer in style and so we’re glad that we were able to make that happen for such a deserving group!”
