This weekend saw a host of St. Helens Sutton A.C. athletes take part in the English Half Marathon which took place just down the road in Warrington.

The weather was spot on the forecast, dull, grey, wet and very windy, put the team of Sutton runners were ready to take on the conditions and aim for some Persnal Best’s (PB).

First home was Matt Crehan in a new 3-minute PB of 1:09.08 and 3rd place, stepping up from his usual 5k distance to take on some of the marathon men at the middle ground. While St Helens’ first lady home with a staggering new PB in such tough conditions was Jade Smith taking nearly 10 minutes off her best, set just over a month ago, running 1:41.45.

Next back splitting Crehan and Smith was Barry Graney in 1:30.36 his fastest half since 2014, and Ian Costello having a last-minute call up and running 1:35.16.

Sutton’s fifth runner home was Ian Pass in 1:42.39. With Sutton’s second lady, Linda White next, breaking her course PB as she ran 2:11.19.

 

And running together, Stephen Pickavance, and Janet Holmes rounded out the St. Helens Sutton A.C. team, with Pickavance running a new PB of 2:15.42 and Holmes running her fastest time since turning 50 with 2:15.44.
