Arty Natalie eyes gold

A young arts enthusiast from St Helens has set her sights on going for gold after completing two stages of a national qualification at her local library.

Having already got a bronze award to her name, 20-year-old Natalie Bennison from Thatto Heath has recently finished her Silver Arts Award portfolio which saw her take part in different arts activities and organise her own projects.

As part of her portfolio, Natalie put together a monthly art bulletin newsletter which featured all the local arts events happening in and around St Helens – and created her own children’s book which was performed at a Read and Rhyme session at Thatto Heath Library.

Natalie, who was also given the opportunity to work as a digital arts reporter for an internationally renowned production company – was recognised for her achievement at a special ceremony at Thatto Heath Library where she was presented with her completion certificate by Library Service Manager, Kathryn Boothroyd, with her proud mum and nan among those in attendance to enjoy the occasion.

Natalie said: “I feel really grateful for being able to achieve both my Bronze and Silver Arts Awards with St Helens Libraries and for all the opportunities that it has given me throughout.

“It has been amazing to be able to complete something that I feel so passionately about and something so enjoyable. It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside library staff, and I’m really looking forward to potentially start my gold portfolio to see what exciting opportunities arise from that.”

Natalie was presented with her certificate by Library Service Manager, Kathryn Boothroyd, in front of library staff and her mum and nan.

The Arts Awards mission is to support young people who want to deepen their engagement with the arts, build creative and leadership skills and achieve a national qualification.

Arts Award levels, Discover; Explore; Bronze and Silver are available to complete in libraries, with St Helens Libraries Service offering young people the opportunity to get involved by completing a portfolio.
