It was a quiet weekend for St. Helens Striders owing to the annual Christmas Party at Windleshaw Sports and Social Club taking place on Saturday night. Many runners wisely opted for a more sedate Sunday, but a few hardy souls refused to let a fuzzy head and churning stomach stop them in their tracks.
Scott Robertson and Ian Wright travelled to Wales to tackle the Vale of Clwyd Half Marathon and their excursion was a successful one. Robertson impressed the admiring locals with a 3rd place finish in 1:30:11, while his trusted mentor Wright followed close behind in 1:36:07 for 6th place.
At Tatton Park in Cheshire, Katie Taggart and Kevin Cairns, clearly not tiring of the Christmas spirit, despite the previous evening’s escapades, took on the 10k Yule Yomp. Cairns battled against the triple impediment of icy weather, a tricky surface and a monumental hangover to complete the course in 52:31. Taggart, smiling as ever, crossed the line in just under an hour.
Elsewhere, Kylie Barlow delighted her friends and family with a new PB of 75:06 in the Stockport 10 Mile race. In the Ribble Valley, John Williams completed the rugged route of the Longridge 7 Mile Race in 51:14, earning a Christmas Pudding for his efforts.
