New running shop opens in Town Centre

Last night saw the opening of a new specialist running shop in St Helens Town Centre.

Made to Run has been a lifelong dream of St. Helens runner and 10k winner, Matt Crehan and his mum and Olympian Susan Crehan.

Having got the keys on the first of December 2018, Matt and his mum plus Matt’s girlfriend Jade Smith and a host of family and friends have worked extremely hard to transform the old key cutters and shoe repair store at 8 College Street, just next to Pets Emporium into a smart, modern and welcoming specialist running shop for the runners of St. Helens.

The Opening welcomed over 100 runners who braved the icy weather to come and support this new hub within the town.

The ribbon cutting saw seven of St. Helens very own past and present international athletes, with Ann Griffiths (1990 Commonwealth Game Silver Medallist, 800m), Darren Scott (Over 40 & 45 World Record Holder 100 & 200m), Michael Causer (England International, Long Jump), Dani McGifford (GB International, Heptathlete), Peter Fairclough and Mark Riley (England International, Triathlon) and co-owner Susan Crehan (1998 Olympic Marathon).

The store has a wealth of specialist running kit from running shoes from the likes of Hoka, Brooks, New Balance, Adidas and Mizuno, to Ron Hill Clothing and a huge range of nutrition and accessories.

But it’s not only the products that make the store unique but the service and advice that the Crehan’s can provide, with a combined knowledge of over 80 years in the sport, both Matt and Susan have a vast range of experience to draw on, be it discussing training tips for your first parkrun, or taking on a marathon to getting a gait analysis and finding the right pair of shoes for your running style.
