David Brisco and Sharon O’Connell travelled to the sublime surroundings of The Lake District as they took on the Coniston 14 Mile Road Race. With the Old Man looking on, O’Connell’s burgeoning talent was on show as she tore round the challenging course in a fantastic time of 1:55. Training partner Brisco was by her side every step of the way, also finishing in 1.55.
At Croxteth Parkrun, there was another sensational performance from the irrepressible Jon-Jo Doherty. He once again lowered the Striders all time 5k club record in a barely believable 16:00 on his way to another commanding victory. This was Doherty’s final outing in the red and black, as he moves on to pastures new.
John Williams also tasted victory at the Resolution 5k race at Croxteth Hall. He led the field a merry dance as he crossed the line in 20:29. His success was all the more remarkable given that Williams had also competed in the Warrington 5 Mile Trail Race 24 hours previously, finishing 18th overall in a time of 34:43. Sarah Charlton also made the trip to Warrington, and delighted her fellow Striders with an impressive finish in 43 minutes.
On Sunday, Eric Ranson and Ian Chisnall made the short journey to Ainsdale for the Tiger Beetle Trail 10k. The demanding course featured energy sapping sections across the town’s splendid beach and sand dunes. The fearless duo were unperturbed, however, finishing first and second in the V45 category. Ranson was 13th overall in 44:16, with Chisnall hot on his heels in 45:23 for 19th place overall.
