This week saw the running of probably the most well-known race in the UK, the London Marathon, and several St. Helens Sutton A.C. athletes were there to take on the challenge.
First back was Ste Anders, who was well on for 2:45 a half way but then suffering cramp and dehydration had to settle for what is still a fantastic time of 3:37.48. Next back was John Appleton who after pulling his achilles finished in 4:27.25 followed by Laura Bunting making her marathon debut in 4:32.19, and rounding out the Sutton team was Club Membership Secretary, Pam Appleton in 4:46.52 which secures her a good for age time for next year.
Elsewhere Charlie Roberts opened up his 800m track season at the British Milers Club Meet in Birmingham with a 2:00.61. Over in Cheshire, Luke Towers had his first race back in a Sutton vest at the Mid-Cheshire 5k with 17:03. And Jon-Jo Doherty following his fantastic 5th place performance at last week’s running of the Classic Rivington Pike Fell Race has been selected to represent Merseyside.
