First stage of A570/Sutton Hall Junction Project to finish later this month

Elton Head Road between Sherdley Road and the A570 Linkway will reopen at the end of the month (May) as the second phase of a major junction project gets underway.

In August 2018, work commenced on the A570/Sutton Hall Junction Project to replace the existing roundabout by Mere Grange and Cooperative Food distribution centre with a traffic signal controlled junction to create a more balanced and measured traffic flow during peak times.

Pedestrian and cycle crossing facilities will also be introduced onto all arms of the junction that link to existing pedestrian routes, and speed limits will be modified on the approaches, further improving safety for all road users.

Stage one of the project is due to be completed by Friday 31 May with the second phase – which will see the closure of Elton Head Road between A570 Linkway and the entrance to Sherdley Park – known as ‘The Score’ – coming into operation.

A signed traffic diversion will be in place, directing traffic towards Scorecross, Sherdley Roundabout and then on to the A570 Linkway – while a temporary controlled pedestrian crossing points and footway diversions will be installed to accommodate the works.

Once Elton Head Road between Sherdley Road and the A570 Linkway reopens, the contraflow will be transferred to the northbound carriageway.

The Sutton Hall Junction project has benefitted from funding from the £232 million Liverpool City Region (LCR) Growth Deal, secured from Government in 2014 by the LCR LEP and the whole scheme is expected to be completed by July 2019.
