St Helens Sutton Athlete’s Best in the North

The weekend saw some impressive wins for St. Helens Sutton A.C. athletes.

Saturday morning saw the monthly running of Knowsley Harriers A.C. Halewood 5k, and Jon-Jo Doherty was back in winning form, with a 46 second lead and finally breaking the 16 minute barrier which had eluded him, with a new PB of 15:59.

Over at Sport City in Manchester the North’s top athletes collected for the two-day Northern Athletic Championships. Matt Crehan played a tactical game in the men’s 5000m, holding back in the early stages before throwing in two 63 second laps to break up the field. Going into the final lap four athletes, including Crehan, raced for the three medal positions, but it was Crehan who came away with the gold, a new track PB 14:51 and his first Northern title. Also competing was Jade Smith who continued her consistent streak over the 1500m with a time of 5:19.4.

Down in Milton Keynes at the BMC PB Classic, young Charlie Roberts continued his impressive form with a strong front run to beat out a field of the best U17s in the country, as he ran a new PB of 1:56.1
