Strong half-year at Nichols

Newton-le-Willows-headquartered soft drinks specialist Nichols – which is behind the Vimto brand – has been buoyed by a strong half-year.

For the six months to 30 June 2019, the company reported revenue of £71.6m compared to £64.99m the prior period.

Pre-tax profits were also up from £13.1m to £13.3m, while EBITDA increased from £14m to £15.3m.

Revenue from still products increased by 11.6 per cent, driven by Vimto dilute in the UK and Vimto concentrate sales to the Middle East. Income from carbonate products also grew by 8.4 per cent as a result of the Africa performance and out of home growth.

Sales were strong across Nichols’ international markets, albeit against softer prior year comparatives, totalling £14.5m compared to £11.2m in H1 2018.

Non-executive chairman John Nichols said: “The board is pleased with the group’s performance in the first six months of 2019 in both our UK and international markets.

“While UK trading conditions are expected to remain challenging, as a result of the group’s diversified business model and sales momentum, the board is confident that full year earnings will be delivered in line with its expectations.”
