St Helens very own national award-winning UC Crew hosted the first UK Breaking Teacher and Coaches event at Peter Street Community Centre on Sunday 13th February, to share best practice, coaching tips and teaching techniques.
Breaking formerly known as Break Dancing enters the Paris Olympic Games in 2024, where athletes will compete to become the first-ever Breaking Olympic Champion.
Teachers, coaches and students travelled to St Helens from across the UK to take part in the event, with people travelling from Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool, Birmingham, Huddersfield and Porth, South Wales.
The event was funded by ‘Back into Sport’ and the ‘Community Foundation For Merseyside’ to help clubs in crisis bounce back after the pandemic. UC Crew was fortunate enough to recover after the lockdowns to be in a position to share their successes and knowledge with other Breaking clubs and organisations across the UK.
Tom Glynn from UC Crew says: “We had a brilliant turn out at our event, with high-level coaches and teachers travelling to our town to share their knowledge and help others to coach effectively and to link it with its cultural roots”
